* DEVI INDIA - CHANDELA PERIOD, XIE/XIIE CENTURY Red sandstone Sculpted architectural fragment of an apsara dressed in a long dhoti and adorned with rich scrolled earrings, necklaces and armbands. The vigorous torsion of her bust responds to the curve of her arms, which seek to catch the hairstyle behind her back. The result is a supple, dynamic posture typical of Chandela sculptures, which punctuate temple facades with variations that animate their classic, imperturbable faces.
