He has dropped off a copy of "a memoir on the discovery of animal magnetism", for presentation to the Paris Faculty of Medicine: "Not wishing to publish it before having given it, through your mediation, this proof of my homage", he hopes that it will convey to the Faculty the assurance of his eagerness to merit its suffrage and of his profound respect. He signs "Mesmer, Docteur en Medicine de la faculté de Vienne".
