François COPPÉE (1842-1908). Autograph poem signed, Le petit épicier, 1870; 4pages in-4, plus title.
One of Coppée's most famous poems, dated here "Juin 1870," collected in Les Humbles (1872).
"He was a tiny grocer in Montrouge;
And his dark store, with red-painted shutters,
Exhaled a bland odor on the sidewalk.
You could see him standing behind his counter,
In his apron, breaking sugar with method"...
Former André Bertaut collection (December 14, 1983, no. 59).
Attached is a photograph with dedication a.s. "À mon cher Giacomelli, pour qu'il me confonde avec Paulus François Coppée" (photo Reutlinger, in-8).
