Francis JAMMES (1868-1938). Autograph poem, Élégie, 1905; 4 pages in-fol.
Long, beautiful poem, dated at the end "1905", published in the Mercure de France of April 1905 and collected in Clairières dans le ciel (Mercure de France, 1906).
It is inspired by Robinson Crusoe, and opens with a quotation from Daniel De Foe's book:
"I was in Hamburg for four months, then in The Hague. [...]
This is what Robinson Crusoe says on the last page.
Robinson Crusoe. A scent of nutmeg
wafts from his sumptuous dress"...
Former André Bertaut collection (December 14, 1983, n°170).
