Marcel PROUST (1871-1922). L.A.S., [Paris August 7, 1912], to Jean-Louis Vaudoyer in Jouy-en-Josas; 3page in-8, envelope. Departure for Cabourg [we know that Cabourg inspired Proust's beautiful descriptions of Balbec in La Recherche]. Proust "suddenly decides to leave right now for Cabourg", after having remained uncertain for a long time: "the smallest move is a big deal for me". He will be in Cabourg that evening. "If you're going there to visit friends, come and see me. But if you're going there to see friends, but aren't invited to their house, you'd give me the greatest pleasure by coming to live in the Gd Hôtel, where you'd be my guest. As I'm always in bed, and you'd hardly ever see me, you wouldn't mind seeing your friends, and I'm not an over-absorbing host"... Correspondence, t.XI, n°95.
