HENRI IV (1553-1610). P.S. "Henry", au Camp devant Laon July 20, 1594; oblong vellum in-fol. Interesting piece for negotiating peace with Savoy, written two days before the capture of Laon. Henri IV is determined to listen to "the proposals put forward by certain good characters who are lovers of public repose and tend to the re-establishment of a good peace between us and the Duke of Savoy", Charles-Emmanuel I the Great. He is always ready to embrace all "just & reasonable means of a good peace amityé & intelligence with all the princes and estats our voysins". Henri IV therefore appointed Nicolas Brulart, sieur de Sillery, his ambassador to Switzerland, to bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion.
