DUFRICHE-VALAZÉ Charles Eléonor [, 1751 -, 1793], Conventionnel, where the Girondins met; arrested at the same time as them and condemned to death, he stabbed himself.
Autograph letter signed. October 23, Year 2, 1 page in-4°.
"Friend, I embrace you, your dear wife and children with tenderness. Here is what I had time to copy from my defense. I entrust you to your friendship and honor, so that you make a copy, and send the package to my wife when the time comes to do so; for I make no secret of the fact that I bid you an eternal farewell. I die a victim of my love for my country and my respect for justice; I die, and I should live filled with the blessings of my citizens. I am not the only man who has had to complain about the injustice and ingratitude of his fellow men. May freedom triumph! It is in great peril. May the republic I founded survive despite internal unrest, the faults of the Convention and the weapons of our enemies!"
