ARTS D'AFRIQUE
Lobi statuette, Burkina Faso
Wood with brown to grayish-brown patina
Height: 31.5 cm
The body is sculpted in the clean-cut style typical of Lobi production. Shoulders, pectoral muscles and blunt knees form a succession of protrusions, while the treatment of the arms is particularly graphic. The face, also depicted with protruding features, is topped by a short kepi, suggesting that this effigy is probably a "colonist", a common theme in West Africa.
