Schellekens' embroidery and pleating studio was founded in 1913 after the businessman Johannes Petrus Alphonsus Schellekens married Antoinette Louise Albers. Albers, together with her sister Maria Mathilda Albers, ran an embroidery studio at Vijzelstraat 34 under the name of the Albers sisters. In 1916, they moved to Nieuwe Herengracht 7, where they bought the actor L.H. Crispijn's house. By 1919 both number 5 and 9 had been added, and from 1929, branches were opened in Den Bosch, The Hague, Groningen, Kampen, Utrecht and Zwolle. The company thrived for decades, closing only in 1980.
