[Peepshow] The Thames Tunnel London, B. Azulay, ca. 1860. Handcol. accordion-style paper peepshow of the Thames Tunnel. In orig. (?) hcl. wr. w. description of the building of the tunnel on mounted verso front cover. 11.5 x 18 cm. Some browning/ foxing. Paper peepshows were a popular souvenir of the Thames Tunnel. The front scene displays the Rotherhithe entrance to the Tunnel and through the two peep-holes, we can see pedestrians walking in the archways. The expanded bellows effectively echo the Tunnel structure and contribute to creating the illusion of being in an underground passage. Rare.
