[Manuscripts] Dutch Book of Hours, second half of the fifteenth century Manuscript on paper, 503 p., black and red ink, 16 lines to most pages, starting w. 24 pages with a calendar listing all months, followed by 12 pages starting w. the words "David rex Silvestr. paus in Rom" and listing important days, the remaining pages w. the hours themselves, rubricated in red throughout, w. 6 large initials and penwork in blue and red, simple thumb index at fore-edge, modern antique style leather over wooden boards, w. use of the orig. blindst. leather on the front cover, manuscript vellum endpapers, 11 x 7.5 x 6 cm, kept in a 16th or early 17th cent. iron missal or messenger's box w. two trick locks and 2 (most likely later, but functioning) keys, 12.5 x 10 x 9 cm. A few lvs have been cut out. Provenance: contemp. or sl. later owner's entry "Suster dircjen Leyden" (?) and "19th cent. owner's entry "E.F. Langhen, souvenir à monsieur J.V. Everts". With bookplate of the Dutch literary historian J.F.M. Sterck (1859-1941) on upper pastedown. A very charming book of hours, aptly kept in an attractive missal or messenger's box. (total 2)
