MICHEL DE MONTAIGNE (1533-1592). SALVADOR DALÍ (Figueres, 1904-1989), illustrations. "Essays" illustrated by Salvador DALÍ. Numbered copy, 66/2990. Published by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, 2005. Limited edition of 3,000 copies. Contains the edition of Montaigne's text illustrated with some thirty reproductions of color and black-and-white plates by Salvador Dalí. Includes folder with facsimile reproduction of the 15 original color plates by Salvador Dalí (ca. 1947), kept by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, numbered and stamped by the foundation. Includes study book, with reproduction and commentary on Dalí's works. "Essays" and study book printed on Modigliani Bianco paper, by Fedrigoni, 145 grams. Printed plates on Tintoretto Gesso paper, Fedrigoni, 300 grams. Folder with plates, study book and "Essays" are kept in a case. It presents marks of use. Some missing on the case. Measurements: 37 x 30,5 x 5 cm (book); 40 x 33 x 10 cm (case). Around 1571, the French landowner Michel de Montaigne secluded himself in his castle, dedicating himself to the administration of his estate and to the writing of his well-known "Essays", where he transfers his concerns, contradictions, reflections, the essence of his life and thought. Salvador Dalí chose 21 of these essays, illustrating them with Indian ink drawings and watercolors. It presents marks of use. Some missing on the case.
