The anonymous artist can be situated in the vicinity of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). Indeed, this large composition borrows many elements from Rubens' work of the same name at the Detroit Institute of Art (inv. 89.63). This painting was also published in print by Adriaen Lommelin (1618/22-1673/75). This engraving allowed the composition to become widely distributed.
