Trowel. Used on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the (old) town hall of Ostend (1709) and donated as a gift by the mayor, council of aldermen, treasurer, clerk and pensionary to the guild of masons there.
Engraved on obverse with the coat of arms of the city of Ostend and inscription 'Den 8 July / 1710' and on verso with the names of the donors.
Silver marks: re-inspection mark (1832) for works before the Dutch period recto and unidentified master mark verso.
We join:engraving with view of the Town Hall of Ostend anno 1711.
