From 1957 to 1980, surrealist painter Leonor Fini spent her summers at Nonza, in a ruined convent on the Corsican Cape, between her cats, her lovers and her artist friends. Her friends included the painters Stanislao Lepri, Max Ernst and his wife Dorothea Tanning, who came to find her in this mysterious place, sharing her dreams and the innocent games of her unbridled imagination. Our work was created in Nonza.
Provenance :
- Given by the artist to the current owner's family in gratitude for caring for one of her ailing cats, then by descent. The carved and gilded wooden frame with scrolls and shells, chosen by the artist, was present at the time of the offering.
