*Rare bronze figure of Maitreya as a Bodhisattva, identified by his hands placed in dharmachakra mudra (turning the darma wheel), legs dangling. This is the only deity in the Buddhist pantheon to be depicted seated in the European style. Also visible are the lotus flower stems traditionally held by the deity. The black dhoti on the chest, wearing rich necklaces, the headdress and the jewelry are characteristic of this period, when the influence of Tibet is felt in the stylistics. CHINA, 16th century.
