Pair of covered baluster-shaped porcelain vases decorated in the Green Family style on a blue ground, China, 19th century
Enameled in blue over glaze and decorated with two large pomegranate-shaped cartouches on a white ground, one polychromatically enameled with birds and insects among rocks and peony blossoms, the other with a seated figure dreaming. On either side, two peach-shaped cartouches decorated with fish in a pond among seaweed and ho ho dancing in a garden where butterflies fly; then two lobed cartouches, one decorated with bats above a tiger and the other with a lakeside landscape where sampans sail and animated by characters near a dwelling. The lids are decorated with lobed medallions showing peonies, butterflies, lotuses and insects. Base enameled with a double circle in underglaze blue.
