Porcelain brush washer mounted as an inkwell, China, late 19th century
Of hemispherical form in white porcelain, overglazed in the famille rose style with flowers and insects. Below, a Daoguang sigillaire mark in red overglaze, surrounded by five small pearls. Mounted in an inkwell in Europe. The silver mounting consists of a thin band at the base, decorated in light relief with pearls and geometrical motifs, and a hinged mounting at the neck. The domed lid is decorated with a thin band of the same design as the base.
