charcoal on paper, signed and dated lower right 'Weschke 1967', 45 x 66.5 cm (ARR)
Provenance:
the Estate of the late David Cornwell, best known as the author John le Carré
Note:
the artist met and worked with members of the Borough Group, such as Miles Richmond and in Spain during the early, and it is clear to see the influence of their teacher, David Bomberg, in this work. The artist would later settle in Cornwell, where he would become associated with the artists of St. Ives and in particular, Bryan Wynter. Works by the artist are in the collections of Ferens Art Gallery, Saffron Walden and the Tate.
