In 1868, at the request of the publisher Goupil & Cie, Alexandre Falguière reworked the figure of Phryné in front of Jean-Léon Gérome's Areopagus presented at the 1861 Salon. For the bronze and ivory edition of this figure, Falguière's plaster model was subsequently retouched by Gérôme.
