Bowl. Enamel cloisonné. Ming period, 2nd half of the 16th century. Of hemispherical form on a small foot ring. In colorful enamel inside a white double vajra with red bands, surrounded by two large makara above waves, outside four leaping lions with brocade balls and lucky symbols, all on a turquoise blue ground. Heavily dam. and losses to the enamel, especially to the rim. H 7.3 cm; D 18.2 cm Provenance Private collection, Northern Germany Literature Cf. an almost identical piece in the former Uldry Collection, illustrated in: Helmut Brinker and Albert Lutz, Chinesisches Cloisonné.
