Very large embroidered wall hanging. Meiji period, late 19th century. Embroidered in shades of beige, gray and brown with a small amount of gold, partly over some padded cotton or paper backing, with two kirin and a large phoenix in a landscape with clouds and a large tree. The background consists of horizontally arranged and sewn-on paper threads wrapped in gold. Some of them loose. Blue-ground brocade border, slightly torn at the edges. Backed with green cotton (patched). Metal rings for suspension. 186 x 121 cm; with border 225 x 159 cm Provenance Private property, Netherlands
