Skull and sansukumi. Okimono netsuke. Ivory. 2nd half 19th century.
Signed in irregular cartouche: Mitsu (Ko) and kao
The naturalistically designed skull is surrounded by a writhing thin snake, a slug above the eye sockets and a frog. The three animals, which bring death to each other, are known as sansukumi. Eyes of the snail made of horn.
