Sculptor active in the Alps in the early 16th century
Saint John
polychrome wood sculpture
h 82 cm
With a hard, sinewy carving characteristic of wood carvers active in the Alpine arc area, St. John is clothed in a robe and a long mantle laced over the chest falling back in broken-line folds. Hands clasped in a prayerful attitude the ecstatic face with a prominent jaw and characterized by severe features is framed by brown, ringed locks.
