Collection of Mr. Jean-Pierre Carbonnel (1937-2002). Knight of the Legion of Honor
An eminent scientist, he devoted his career to research in the fields of geology and hydrology, in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
In 1973, he was appointed Director of C.N.R.S.'s permanent scientific mission in Afghanistan, a post he held until 1979. It was during this time that he acquired the numerous pieces that make up his collection of Bactrian objects.
