In his book Le Grand Siècle de la nature morte en France, le XVIIe siècle, Michel Faré mentions the painter Jean de Chappe, born in Reims, whose city once preserved two still lifes, including one of flowers and fruit on a table covered with a blue carpet (p.356).Fribourg 1974).Guillaume Jeanneau has mentioned the various painters of the Chappe family from Reims, the portraitists Gabriel (1620 - ?), Hubert (1640 - 1683), Hubert II (1650 - after. 1717) and Jean Chappe (La Peinture française au XVIIe siècle, p.113. - Genève 1965).
