Claude de Chazerat, comte de Lezoux, was the last intendant of Auvergne, an important province in Old Regime France. In 1750, he married Gilberte Rollet de Mirabel, who gave him the Château de Mirabel near Riom as a dowry. He built a townhouse in Clermont-Ferrand, famous for its oval courtyard punctuated with antique-style pilasters in Volvic stone, which now houses the Cultural Department of the Auvergne region.
