ARCHITECTURES. A collection edited by Louis Sue and André Mare, including a dialogue by Paul Valery and a presentation of works of architecture, interior decoration, painting, sculpture and engraving that have contributed to French style since 1914. Paris: Edition de la Nouvelle Revue française, 1921. One large folio paperback volume in printed and filled cover. Paul VALERY's Socratic dialogue "Eupalinos ou l'architecte" is in the pre-original edition, listed in the table of contents under its first title: "Dialogues des morts". Illustrated with 6 full-page plates: - an original etching by DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC; - an original lithograph by BOUSSINGAULT; - an original burin ("Le Kiosque à journaux") by LABOUREUR; - a woodcut composition in color by Marie LAURENCIN; - LA FRESNAYE's "Conquête de l'air" woodcut in color; - the bust of Baudelaire etched by Jacques VILLON after the sculpture by DUCHAMP-VILLON. The second part of the collection, describing architectural and decorative achievements, is illustrated with 33 full-page plates, sketches and ornaments, by André MARE, BOUSSINGAULT, Louis SUE, engraved by Jacques VILLON, etc. Edition of 500 numbered copies on Navarre vellum of this first volume (the only one published). Very pale angular spotting in the inner margin of a few leaves, otherwise a VERY GOOD and RARE EXAMPLE of this superb collection with its ample typography, which perfectly reflects the conception of architectural and decorative art in the 1920s.
