[BOSC DU BOUCHET]: Le Conseil de Momus, et la revue de son Régiment, Calotin poem. S.l. s.e.n.d. [Paris, 1730]. One volume in-8°. Bound in contemporary full calf, spine ribbed and decorated with fleuronné stippled fillets, garnet morocco title page, all edges red. ORIGINAL EDITION, complete with 3 engraved hors-texte: the portrait of Aymon 1er after Audran and two figures representing the god Pet and the flag of the Calotte regiment. This first edition appeared without a title page and was sold "sous le manteau". Le conseil de Momus is one of the publications of the Association de la Calotte, a burlesque society that was particularly active during the Regency and early reign of Louis XV. Founded by a few witty men in the early 18th c., it stigmatized anything it deemed lacking in propriety and good taste, either in words or actions. The association de la calotte issued satirical patents to personalities who had demonstrated bad taste (such as Crébillon, the Maréchal de Villars, the Marquise de la Vrillière etc.) (Cohen: 251. Gay-Lemonnier: I, 666). Spine edges faded, small loss at head and corners, else a fine copy of this satirical work.
