An 1845 model general's epee
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Belgio, Straight blade of lozenge section, engraved with floral bands on half of its length; smooth tang. Bronze-coloured, metal hilt with remains of gilding. The rear valve with the Belgian Lion in relief on a banner featuring laurel and oak fronds below, and set between two five-pointed stars. The guard with oak fronds in relief. The pommel with the rods of Jupiter and floral decorations. Dark horn handle with copper wire binding. The rear valve is turned and with and embossed trophy of arms. Leather scabbard with metal mounts featuring remains of gilding. Together with a sword knot in worse condition.
