His father, Sir Samuel Dashwood (1643 - 1705) became the Mayor of London in 1702. Katharine (1690-1779), also came from a family of politicians; her father being Robert Bristow (1662 - 1706), MP for for Winchelsea. Here two brothers, Robert (1688-1737) and John (1701-1768) were also MPs. Upon his death in 1758, Katharine served as Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Charlotte, the Queen Consort of George III.
