"The Trianeros at the Romería del Rocío" (1925)
This large-format painting, created by Josep Morell in 1925 to decorate the Dauner confectionery in Perpignan, captures the essence of the Andalusian pilgrimage. The dynamic scene depicts the departure from Triana for the Rocío pilgrimage to Seville, marking the renewal after Holy Week. Pilgrims move from left to right, symbolizing the arrival of spring and summer. Dominated by a couple on horseback watching a flautist, the painting is filled with richly decorated carts and flamenco women. Josep Morell uses poetic and symbolic elements, such as the swallow, to express the love and care between the characters. The omnipresent lanterns add depth and perspective, reflecting the influence of Seville's Feria de Abril.
