DELVAUX, Laurent (attributed to) Putto. 18th c Clay, 21,2 x 9,7 x 10,0 cm (few sm. cracks). Good condition. Charming sculpture of a seated putto with a belt and a piece of cloth. Laurent Delvaux (1696-1778) was a Ghent-born sculptor who produced major works such as the funerary monument of John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham (London, Westminster Abbey), and the monumental pulpit with Truth (Ghent, St Bavo's Cathedral). Similar putti by Delvaux are in Brussels (Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, inv. 10941, 4020), London (Victoria & Albert Museum, inv. 910-1855, 911-1855) and Paris (Louvre, inv. RF 4725).
