Corinthian black-figure tripod pyx with lid by the painter of Athens 270. Late Corinthian II, 2nd half 6th century BC. H with lid 8.2 cm, ø at rim 11.6 cm. Lotus bud frieze on the lid and a siren with outstretched wings on each of the three feet. With numerous details in red. With certificate of authenticity from Galerie Günter Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau! Published in the catalog for Jack-Philippe Ruellan, Vannes, auction of 4 April 2009, lot 6. Cf. on the painter D. A. Amyx, Corinthian Vase-Painting of the Archaic Period (1988) p. 257 with pl. 111, 3-4. Paint largely chipped in a few places and on one foot, otherwise intact. Provenance: From the R. L. Collection, Lower Saxony, acquired in 2009 from Galerie Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau; from the French Bellon Collection (1819-1899).
