Roman flask, so-called pilgrim flask, with grotesque depiction. Eastern Mediterranean, 1st half of the 1st century AD. H 16.6 cm, ø body 12.3 cm. Beige clay with applied decoration. On both sides a crouching grotesque man and opposite him a cockerel. Below each two palm leaves and surrounding theater masks. With certificate of authenticity from Galerie Günter Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau! Intact. Provenance: From the R. L. Collection, Lower Saxony, acquired in 2010 from Galerie Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau; previously in the Selinka Collection, Ravensburg, acquired for this collection in 1978 from Galerie Aloys Faust, Cologne.
