Hellenistic statuette of a girl. Magna Graecia, 2nd century BC. H 20.2 cm. Beige terracotta. Front made of matrix, details hand-modeled. Girl with melon hairstyle, large bun and ivy wreath, wearing a long chiton belted under her chest and holding her right hand on her hip. Burnt hole at the back. With certificate of authenticity from Galerie Günter Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau! Published in: Kunst der Antike - Galerie Günter Puhze catalog 23, 2009, no. 59 (copy enclosed). On the provenance and dating see F. W. Hamdorf - F. Leitmeir, Die figürlichen Terrakotten der Staatlichen Antikensammlungen München vol. 2 (2014) p. 505 no. E 501. Head broken and reattached, some leaves of the wreath missing, otherwise intact. Provenance: From the collection of R. L., Lower Saxony, acquired in 2009 from Galerie Puhze, Freiburg im Breisgau; from the collection of the historian Professor Stefan Skalweit, Bonn (1914-2003), acquired in the 1970s.
