Roman composite capital. Imperial period, 1st - 2nd century AD. H 33cm and with stand 35.8cm, ø 30.2cm. Made of fine crystalline white marble. A row of acanthus leaves in the lower section of the kalathos, with a crater above between double caules at each corner, from which various plants sprout. The abacus plate is concave at the front and sides and straight at the back. With a copy of the Bonhams catalog! Large losses to the lower half, further smaller losses to the caules and the abacus, mounted on a beautiful metal stand. Provenance: Ex Bonhams London auction October 5, 2011, lot 132; previously in an English private collection since before 2000.
