Greek bronze inochoe. Classical period, 4th century BC. H 19.1cm, ø body 10.6cm. Type 2 with ovoid body, narrow neck, cloverleaf mouth and low bow handle. The fluted handle ends at the bottom in an attachment in the shape of a bearded Silens head, while the thumb rest ends with a youthful satyr head. A pearl and egg stick on the lip. Turned concentric circles on the underside. Magnificent figural decoration of high quality! Cf. for example Th. Lime green patina, wall partially replaced, handle reattached. Provenance: From the W. M. Collection, Bavaria; at Gorny & Mosch Auction 268, Munich 2019, lot 137; previously since 1982 in the B. C., England; acquired in the English art trade in the 1960s.
