Jasper gem with Apollo and inscription. Roman, 2nd - 3rd century A.D. H 1.3cm. High oval intaglio of red jasper: draped bust of Apollo with laurel wreath and hairband, laurel branch and Greek letters ΔPC / AΘN. Small loss in the upper area. Provenance: ex Phidias, auction, Paris 21.11.2023, lot 296; acquired on 07.11.2009 from Jean-David Cahn, Basel; ex F. Riquèles, auction, Paris 22-23.04.2001, ex lot 393; ex coll. Jean-Alain Mariaud de Serres (1920-1999), probably acquired in the 1950s.
