Scroll seal with introductory scene. Old Babylonian, ca. 2003 - 1595 BC, reworked in Minoan times. H 2.6cm, ø 1.2cm. Hematite. A male figure with a broad-brimmed cap, his left hand resting on a weapon at his waist, standing in front of a naked woman with her hands folded in front of her waist, standing frontally on a pedestal. To the right is a three-line inscription: "Ilschu-abuschu, / son of Sîn-imitti, / servant of (the god) Sîn". The five birds (or horizontal plants?) and the four stars filling the open spaces were probably added in Minoan times. With a copy of the invoice! With unrolling! Published in: E. Rehm, Rollsiegel aus einer hessischen Privatsammlung, Ugarit-Forschungen 35, 2003, no. 41. Tiny chips to the drill holes. Provenance: Ex collection J.K.-E., Hesse, acquired 1985 in London from Hadji Baba Ancient Art.
