Magnificent olmec mask. 1000 - 500 BC. H 22cm, W 18cm. Serpentinite. Mostly smooth surface. V-shaped eyebrows attached to the flat pierced nose, which extends to the upper lip. Thick lips frame the slightly open mouth. The almond-shaped eyes are pierced, as are the earlobes, which each have two holes at the upper and lower ends, presumably to hold the mask in place. With material certificate from Antiques Analytics! Intact, with stand. Provenance: North Rhine-Westphalian private collection collected from 1970 to 2004.
