Large ritual vessel in human form. Chancay, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. H ca. 51cm. Light-colored, unglazed clay with red and brown painting. Large oval body with a rounded base, wide opening as a primitive head with a cylindrical cap and large ear plugs; arms and legs are schematically attached to the body in relief, a small cup in the hands. The large checkered collar is incised, and the clothing and ritual tattooing are indicated in two colors. Excellent piece! With TL analysis! A few tiny chips, hands reattached, with plexiglass stand. Provenance: Ex private collection P.V., Brussels, since before 2010; ex collection W. Furst, France, before 1986.
