Prehistoric projectile point. "Mound-Builder" culture, ca. 3500 - 1000 B.C. L 26.3 cm, W 4 cm. Light brown chert. Elongated, narrow, tapered lance or spear point with a notched area for attachment to a shaft. Shell-like surface due to chipped flakes of the stone. Shaped by percussion striking with the aid of a hammerstone or bone rod. Findspot: Red Bud, Kaskaskia, River, Illinois Fantastic example of North American "Mound-Builder" craftsmanship! Intact. With metal stand. Provenance: Acquired in the U.S.A. In Germany since the 1980s.
