Statuette of Mahakala Gomponagpo, wrathful manifestation of Shiva. Tibet, 18th century. H 16.1 cm, W 14.5 cm. Fire-gilt bronze, small inlays of turquoise and red coral. The six-armed deity is depicted in a lunge, has flaming hair and the third eye on his forehead and wears a skull crown. She holds a tiger skin behind her back with two hands, a prayer chain, a trishula (trident) and an hourglass-shaped hand drum with two hands. At the bottom, Vinayaka, the symbol of Hinduism, lies on a lotus base with a separate elephant head. Gilding somewhat rubbed in small areas, otherwise intact. Provenance: From the private collection of H. N. in Franconia, in this collection since 1987.
