Helmet mask gelede. Yoruba, Nigeria. L approx. 32cm, h approx. 33cm, ø approx. 26cm. With a black-colored crest hairstyle of parallel rows of plaits, held by a broad, also black-colored, broadly striped band. The light brown-reddish colored head with blue-colored eyes and linear scarring on the cheeks, which continues to the headband; small scars also on the forehead. Presumably made of ketu. Minor abrasions from prolonged use, small crack to the headband, otherwise intact, matt, shiny patina. Provenance: Ex Coll. Mareidi Stoll-Singer, Munich.
