[MUSSET, Alfred de] Gamiani ou Deux nuits d'excès. By Alcide, baron de M***. Lunéville Kteisvit [i.e. Bruxelles, J. Gay ou A. Brancart; or Paris, H. Doucé (impr. E. Lhoest) c. 1883] In-12; 10 h.-t. (slight russeting, some soiling on margins, slight light wetness on plates probably due to coloring, tear restored without loss to one plate). Contemporary brown half-chagrin with corners, marbled paper boards set with gilt fillets, gilt spine ribbed with gilt fleurons, gilt t. (slight wear to headpieces, nerves and corners). 10 plates, including 2 fronts, printed on chine and finely enhanced with watercolors. The name of the imaginary publisher combines the Greek "ctéis", a word used by ancient authors to designate a woman's sex, and French. Title adorned with a vignette depicting a faun and a nymph, often used by Gay and Doucé. Ex. on "VG" watermarked laid paper. Ref. Pia 564 (does not mention the plates and dates the ed. "apparently [...] between 1895 and 1900, i.e. after the period of activity of Gay et Doucé"). - Perceau 16-23. - Dutel 345, 345bis. Prov. Philip, in Japanese characters (stamp). Joint, another ed. of the same work: Bruxelles, s.n., 1896 [i.e. c. 1940]. In-16 (slight browning to false title). Br. in pink embossed paper covers (spine slightly faded). Ref. Dutel 1651 (2 vols.)
