[MUSSET, Alfred de] Gamiani ou Deux nuits d'excès. By A. de M. With vignettes by Jean de Guéthary [i.e. Jean-Gabriel Daragnès]. "Chez un bourgeois de Paris, rue du Coq hardi" [i.e. Paris J.-G. Daragnès] 1845 [i.e. 1920] In-4°. Wine-lees jansenist morocco signed J[eanne] Zipélius, smooth spine with gilt title and monogram, triple gilt fillet on endpapers, ornamented cover and witnesses cons. (spine faded, small stains, some spotting to headpieces and corners). Int. very good. Rare edition illustrated under pseudonym by Daragnès with 15 woodcuts by Aubert including 1 front, 1 title vignette and a large culispice, not all licentious. Edition of 110 copies on old japon (n° 78), except for 3 on Whatman and 3 on japon impérial, not reported. Daragnès was not afraid to acknowledge this edition "by including it in the catalog of a sale of works illustrated by him. This sale took place at the Hôtel Drouot on November 29, 1924, but either out of caution, or at the behest of the Chancellery, the auctioneer did not proceed with the auction of the free works, which were sold separately, on the same day, in the artist's studio" (Pia). The artist had used the same pseudonym to illustrate Nerciat's "Doctorat impromptu", published around 1920. Title printed in red and black. ref. Dutel 1630 - Pia 568-569. - Cp. Perceau 16.
