Journal des dames et des modes. [Paris N. Vaucluse [- Carpentier-Méricourt]] 1819-1825, 1830 7 vol. in-8° ; 619 pl. (sometimes trimmed rather short, despite qqqs. russ. and min. defects in good condition). Contemporary blond half calf with corners, ornate smooth spines, yellowed boards (spine split on vol. 1, ± rubbed, corners dulled). One of the first illustrated French fashion magazines, created in 1797 by bookseller Jean-Baptiste Sellèque (1767-1801) and Madame Clément, taken over in 1801 by Pierre de La Mésangère (1761-1831) and disappearing in 1839. The lot comprises a total of 619 very fine hand watercolored engravings showing the costumes of the period. Ref. Colas 1561. - Vicaire IV:1258-1294. Prov. Cachet de collect.
