Grey percale, bistre plate framing the boards, gilt title on the first board, Charles Magnier's iron in bistre in the center of the second board, smooth spine decorated, gilt head, untrimmed (Ch. Magnier et ses fils). First edition of this vast publication edited by Émile Monod, published after the Universal Exhibition and intended to give not only a full history and description of the Exhibition, but above all an in-depth study of the issues, facts and problems exposed and resolved during the event. The illustrations include over 1,200 engravings in the text and on full pages, and 70 plates in a separate atlas. Heavy rubbing with a tear to the second cover of the first volume, 4 cm split to a hinge of the same volume. Corners slightly dulled. Minor foxing. First edition containing all issues of this luxurious magazine, providing a complete picture of the 1889 Universal Exhibition. It is lavishly illustrated with woodcuts, heliogravures, etc. in and out of the text. Contributors included Guy de Maupassant, Alexandre Dumas fils, Théodore de Banville, Joris-Karl Huysmans, Émile Bergerat, Émile Goudeau, etc. for the texts, and Clairin, Grasset, Jeanniot, Leloir, Lepère, Merson, Myrbarch, etc. for the illustrations. Soiling and wear to boards, inner hinges very fragile. Some foxing. Missing plate 304bis in the second part. - L'Exposition de Paris (1889) published with the collaboration of special writers. Edition enriched with views, scenes, reproductions of objets d'art, machines, drawings and engravings by the best artists. Complete set of 80 issues of this occasional journal published for the 1889 World's Fair, published from October 15, 1888 to February 19, 1890, offering a complete panorama of the event. The illustrations include numerous engravings in the text and on full pages, as well as 84 plates, the first of which is a fold-out panoramic view of the exhibition. Copy in contemporary binding, complete with mock-titles and general titles. Traces of wetness on the boards. Slight wear to headpieces and edges of boards.
