Bradel-style red half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine decorated with a gilt fleuron, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (Durvand). Rare first edition of the fourth title in the Rougon-Macquart series, of which no large paper copies were printed. A very fine copy bound by Durvand, very well preserved, complete with the publisher's catalog at the end and the front and back covers. Rare in such condition.
